I’ve sat exactly where you are.

And I know what’s possible on the other side.

There’s a difference between studying businesses and building one. I have the training — business school, Bay Street. But I’ve also built my own business from scratch. I’ve made the early pricing mistakes, felt the cash flow dread, sat on the couch at night wondering if it was going to work out. That’s a different kind of knowing.

I’m Lisa Genevieve, CPA-CA. I started my business in 2015. For years I had a full client roster and a brand I was proud of, but I was paying everyone else and barely paying myself.

In the summer of 2019, I had my daughter. That fall I sat down on the couch, newborn sleeping on my lap, and decided things had to change. I built the cash flow systems and pricing models I wished someone had given me from day one.

There’s a lot of talk about manifesting, about getting into the right energy and trusting that it will work out. I believe in all of that. But what I know from my own experience, and from working with the business owners I’ve sat across from, is that the belief comes after the clarity, not before it.

When I finally sat down and saw what was possible if I changed just a few specific things, that’s when I was able to relax. The spreadsheets gave me permission to believe.

By the time my son arrived a year later, I was paying myself almost double. And soon after, a healthy full time salary. But I was still working more than I wanted to be.

Profitable, yes. Fulfilling? Not entirely.

In 2023, I sold the part of my business that was draining me so I could focus on the work that actually lights me up.
